According to Oxford dictionary of sociology poverty is the state in which sources usually is material but sometime cultural are lacking. The world bank defines in absult terms. The bank defines extreme poverty as living on less than 1.19$ per day and moderate poverty as less than 3.10$ per day. Poverty includes poverty line and poverty line includes: 1) BPL (below poverty line) and 2) APL (above poverty line).
Every government fixes its own poverty line which is determine by the prevailing standards what is needed for help efficiency nurturing for children social participation and maintains of self-respect. It usually involves a judgement of basic physiological means (for survival, safety and security).
There are many causes of poverty and all these causes may be grouped into two divisions:
1) Individual causes pertaining him/herself.
2) Social causes or social structural
views.
The poverty of given society is expressed in term of national
income, minimum per capita income, expenditure, amount of given resources and
nutritional levels, daily intake of calories. Humans dignity requires more than
physiological needs that are food, shelter, clothing, medicine and the social
needs like need of self-empowerment such as education should also be included
in the measure of poverty.
There are some causes of poverty in India such as: 1) High
population growth, 2) slow job growth, 3) slow economic growth, 4) chronic
unemployment, 5) unequal distribution of wealth, 6) corruption, and the last 7)
natural calamities.
In conclusion, poverty is not the problem of a person but of
the whole nation. Also, it should be deal with on an urgent basis by the
implementation of effective measures. In addition, eradication of poverty has
become necessary for the sustainable and inclusive growth of people, society,
country, and economy.
