Poverty Latisha Reddy B.A IJ 1 st yr Roll no- 13. According to Oxford dictionary of sociology poverty is the state in which sources usually is material but sometime cultural are lacking. The world bank defines in absult terms. The bank defines extreme poverty as living on less than 1.19$ per day and moderate poverty as less than 3.10$ per day. Poverty includes poverty line and poverty line includes: 1) BPL (below poverty line) and 2) APL (above poverty line). Every government fixes its own poverty line which is determine by the prevailing standards what is needed for help efficiency nurturing for children social participation and maintains of self-respect. A democratic leader is in position for a limited period. So there is a tendency to make money by use of power. In a democracy, corruption chances cannot be controlled as long as people of the entire nation wants to avoid it. This includes leaders, officials, people, businessmen, etc. Even if one is not in a mood to avoid corruption , the entire system will go towards corruption gradually. Secondly, there is no protection for a common man, there is no protection for the common man as the leaders itself try to misuse or misbehave in public. Indirect democracy is also known as representative democracy; a politician is elected from each constituency who represents the people who voted for him in the parliament.
